New twist in Benni McCarthy’s return to South Africa!

Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy is back in South Africa to rejoin SuperSport TV for UEFA Champions League matches.

However, there are new developments regarding his coaching future.

According to SABC Sport, McCarthy is a top priority for AmaZulu who recently parted ways with Pablo Franco Martin.

The relationship between AmaZulu and McCarthy isn’t at its best but the publication reports that the Durban-based side is ready to iron out the differences.

A few months after McCarthy had left, AmaZulu appointed Romain Folz, and Sandile Zungu is on record to say Folz was a better coach for them than the Bafana Bafana legend.

That despite the retired striker guiding AmaZulu to a second-place finish and CAF Champions League qualification.

Interestingly, Folz never lasted as head coach and left AmaZulu having occupied a different position.

Now, Folz is at Mamelodi Sundowns as an assistant to Manqoba Mngqithi, and McCarthy is heavily linked with AmaZulu.

Furthermore, several coaches, including Stuart Baxter, Morena Ramoreboli, Bradley Darnell and Muhsin Ertugral could be the options.

As reported by The South African, AmaZulu’s Diski Challenge team coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has also been earmarked.

BENNI MCCARTHY LINKED WITH AMAZULU RETURN

“AmaZulu are believed to be targeting Benni McCarthy to return to the club following the sacking of coach Pablo Franco Martin, SABC Sport has learnt,” reads part of the report.

“The public broadcaster has established that the club are keen to bring McCarthy back to the fold with the confidence that any issues that led to their parting of ways the last time can be ironed out.

“SABC Sport has also gathered that AmaZulu have also been offered other alternatives to fill the vacant post.

“It’s understood that Morena Ramoreboli, Bradley Carnell, Stuart Baxter and Muhsin Ertugral have been suggested as options.”
