FIVE Kaizer Chiefs players to miss the Cufa Cup
Several Kaizer Chiefs stars are nearing a return from injury but the upcoming friendly Cufa Cup will come too soon for them.
Five Kaizer Chiefs stars to miss Cufa Cup
There’s positive news regarding four injured Amakhosi stars. Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has recovered from a finger injury, while George Matlou, Tebogo Potsane and Edmilson Dove will soon be back in full training. Matlou has battled with injuries since joining the club in 2022, while Dove will need to win his place back in the side after picking up an injury during the pre-season tour of Turkey.
“Another player progressing well is George Matlou. He has started running and doing some ball work and we are looking at a November return for him, “ the Chiefs physio added.
“He [Potsane] went for a scan which showed some ligament damage, so we expect him to be out for around three weeks.
“Edmilson Dove is out of the protective boot and is doing some preliminary walking. We are confident he will be able to start running in November. Brandon had the pins removed from his finger and can start full training immediately,” Miller concluded.
Gaston Sirino is out for ‘two weeks’
According to the club’s medical team, 33-year-old Uruguayan Gaston Sirino injured his abductor muscle in Amakhosi’s defeat to Sundowns before the international break. With the prognosis below, you’d have to think Sirino is a massive doubt for Chiefs’ clash away to SuperSport on October 26th. Incidentally, Cheifs also face Matsatsantsa in the next round of the Carling Knockout after Tuesday’s draw. Sirino could, however, be available for the trip to Magesi on October 30th.
“Gaston Sirino sustained an abductor muscle injury in the last match, and he is improving nicely, and we expect him to be back in full training within two weeks,” Kaizer Chiefs physiotherapist David Miller said.
32-year-old striker Ranga Chivaviro battled in his debut campaign for Chiefs but things are looking a little rosier in 2024-2025. The former Gallants man, incredibly prolific for his old team, has scored in back-to-back Betway Premiership matches, recently against Sundowns. Ranga bagged an astonishing 17 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions for Gallants in the 2022-2023 campaign so the Limpopo-based side knows all about the threat he poses.
What about the Betway Premiership?
Amakhosi must wait until October 26th for the next league clash, against Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport. Here are their next three:
- SuperSport United vs Kaizer Chiefs – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30 kickoff
- Magesi FC vs Kaizer Chiefs – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30 kickoff
- Kaizer Chiefs vs Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30 kickoff
With Chiefs back to full strength, can they get nine points from their next three league matches?
