Pirates vs. Gallants Match Postponed Due to Scheduling Conflicts

The Betway Premiership clash between Orlando Pirates and Marumo Gallants, initially planned for early next month, has been postponed.

The match was slated for 3 December at Toyota Stadium, but due to an overloaded fixture agenda, it will not be taking place. This change is required because it falls just 48 hours before their game against Stellenbosch FC on 1 December at Orlando Stadium.

FIFA guidelines stipulate that there must be a 72-hour interval between matches, which has led to the postponement of the Gallants fixture. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will provide an updated date for this match at a later time.

This delay could offer a valuable advantage for Pirates as they gear up to host Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League next Saturday.

At present, Pirates are atop the Betway Premiership standings with 21 points from seven games, leading Mamelodi Sundowns by three points. Both clubs are engaged in the CAF Champions League group stage. While Sundowns tied their first match against AS Maniema Union, Pirates achieved a 2-1 win over CR Belouizdad in Algeria.

This victory away from home marked Pirates’ first in the Champions League group stage since their 3-0 triumph over Al Ahly back in 2013. That season, Pirates advanced to the final but ultimately fell to the Egyptian powerhouse.
