Ian Redpath Dies at 83: Tributes Pour in for Ashes Cricket Legend and 66-Test Australian Star

Ian Redpath, the renowned Australian cricket icon, has passed away at the age of 83.

He died on Sunday after fighting a brief illness.

A Hall of Fame cricketer, Redpath represented Australia in 66 Test matches, scoring eight centuries during his career from 1964 to 1976.

He concluded his international journey with an impressive batting average of 43.45 over those 66 tests.

His pinnacle performance was an outstanding 171 runs, achieved against England in 1970.

Born in Victoria, the batsman was affectionately called ‘Redders’ and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023.

Tributes have already started pouring in for this cricketing legend.

The Cricket Australia account on X expressed: “Farewell to a legend of Australian cricket.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Hall of Famer and Test batsman Ian Redpath, who has left us at the age of 83.”

Former Australian cricket star Damien Fleming also shared his respects on X.

He noted: “Rest In Peace Redders. He was an exceptional cricketer and an even better person.

“He inspired and mentored many of us at South Melbourne and Geelong cricket clubs.

“Loved by all you played or coached with for Victoria and Australia.

“And once more, apologies for letting you down on the golf course. Condolences to the Redpath family.”

Redpath ended his career holding the record for the most runs scored in a single over (32) by an Australian in first-class cricket.
