Luke Humphries Questions ‘What’s Funny About That?’ in Awkward Exchange with Snooker Star Shaun Murphy
DARTS sensation Luke Humphries found himself in an uncomfortable conversation with snooker legend Shaun Murphy after asserting that hitting a nine-darter is more challenging than achieving a 147 maximum break.
Humphries and Murphy were among the athletes featured in Paddy Power’s Perfect Challenge.
Two darts competitors, two snooker champions, and two golf players faced off to resolve a longstanding debate: which is the most difficult achievement—making a hole-in-one, scoring a 147 break, or hitting a nine-darter?
Current world darts champion Humphries stated that for a beginner, accomplishing a 147 would pose the greatest challenge.
Nonetheless, he argued that for an experienced athlete, a nine-darter would be the more formidable task.
The world No. 1 remarked: “If you hand someone a set of darts, a snooker cue, and a golf club, I believe they would land a hole-in-one first, followed by a nine-darter, and then the 147. That would be the hardest one.”
“However, a professional understands all the angles in snooker.”
Former world snooker champion Murphy could be heard chuckling before responding, “I had no idea you were a comedian. A 147 is tougher than a nine-darter.”
Humphries countered, “What’s so amusing about that? Did you pay attention to what I said? I mentioned that as a pro, knowing the angles makes it appear simple.”
“In terms of frames to legs in darts, there are more 147s than nine-darters.”

Murphy then stated, “Well, that doesn’t mean it’s easier.”
The awkward back-and-forth concluded when Humphries quickly replied, “I never claimed it was easier.”
The only achievement during the challenge was the 147 break, which Murphy successfully scored.
