Fastorslow, Superstar Chaser, Ruled OUT for Season as Surprise Departure Alters Cheltenham Gold Cup Landscape

Fastorslow, the superstar chaser, has been sidelined for the entire season, dampening prospects of a thrilling clash with Galopin Des Champs.

The multiple Grade 1 winner, trained by Martin Brassil, has not sustained a career-threatening injury.

However, he requires a break to recuperate after finishing fourth in the John Durkan.

The trainer stated in a message shared with Irishracing.com: “Following the John Durkan Chase, Fastorslow sustained a soft tissue injury.

“Before returning to full training, we had him examined by our veterinary team. They have advised us that he needs time off, meaning he will miss the rest of this season.

“It is not career-threatening, and we anticipate he’ll be back for the start of the 2025/26 season.”

Fastorslow had been a strong contender for this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup.

He and two-time Gold Cup champion Galopin Des Champs have had some epic contests, particularly at Fastorslow’s favorite venue, Punchestown.

However, he underperformed in last month’s John Durkan, which was won by current Gold Cup favorite, Fact To File.

In light of Fastorslow’s news, his odds for the prestigious race have solidified to 5-2.

Trainer Willie Mullins has openly expressed his admiration for the JP McManus-owned seven-year-old, who triumphed in the Brown Advisory in March.

There has also been interest in Galopin Des Champs, with odds shortening to 3-1 for him to achieve a hat-trick in the Friday feature.
