Olympic Champion Charlotte Dujardin Faces One-Year Suspension Following Controversial Video of Horse Whipping
DOUBLE Olympic dressage champion Charlotte Dujardin has received a one-year suspension following the release of a disturbing video that shows her whipping a horse.
This incident has led to her withdrawal from the Paris Games, and the International Federation for Equestrian Sports has confirmed her ban.
Britain’s top equestrian talent withdrew from the Paris Olympics in shame this summer after a video surfaced that depicted her striking a horse 25 times on its legs with a long whip.
The three-time Olympic gold medallist expressed that she was “deeply ashamed” of her “error of judgement” during a coaching session at a private stable, resulting in her provisional six-month ban from the sport.
If she had secured any Olympic medal, her total would have reached seven from four Games, surpassing Laura Kenny’s cycling record of six.
The North London-born competitor was widely expected to be honored with a Damehood in the King’s New Year’s Honours List.
