According to SunSport, Macclesfield manager Savage has made a positive impression on the Cobblers’ management team.

Savage, 50, was appointed as the manager of the Northern Premier League team last summer.

The former Wales and Blackburn midfielder has successfully guided Macclesfield to the top of the league in his inaugural managerial role.

Brady’s assistant, Ian Sampson, has taken interim charge of Northampton and will manage the team during Monday’s home match against Peterborough.

A statement from Cobblers Chairman Kelvin Thomason read: “Following Jon’s resignation yesterday, the Board of Directors convened and has agreed to accept it under the current circumstances.

“We truly value Jon’s contributions to the club, especially his initial work within the academy and his role as first team manager over the past four years.

“I personally appreciated Jon’s heartfelt remarks earlier in the week when he recognized the tremendous support he received from the club.

“However, we all understand the significant pressures that accompany the managerial position, and while we would have preferred a different outcome, we respect Jon’s choice.”

“We will now collaborate with Jon and the LMA regarding his exit agreement.

“In the meantime, we are fortunate to have a skilled, passionate, and experienced staff, led by Ian Sampson, to manage things during this interim period, allowing us the necessary time to navigate these matters.

“We firmly believe that our squad possesses both the talent and quality, and we have complete confidence in the players at the club.

“It’s evident that we are currently in a difficult position on the pitch, but we know the Cobblers supporters will always rally when needed, and we are confident they will back the team at Sixfields on Monday.”
