Golf Insights, Free Betting Offers, and Current Odds for the WM Phoenix Open 2025
This week’s Phoenix Open proudly asserts its title as the “most attended tournament” in all of golf – a claim that’s difficult to dispute, even in the absence of Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy is taking a break after drastically reversing his previous performance at Pebble Beach with an impressive two-shot victory last week.
However, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will return to TPC Scottsdale, one of his favorite venues. The massive crowds, drawing in up to 200,000 fans – many congregating in the beer-laden stands surrounding the par three 16th – are ready to cheer for him.
Scheffler’s performance here has been impressive, sandwiching back-to-back victories in 2022 and 2023 with fifth and third place finishes.
It’s no surprise he is currently listed at 3-1 for a potential third win, especially after making a strong comeback post-surgery on his injured hand, finishing in the top ten at Pebble. But let’s be daring and consider taking him on!

Phoenix Open Golf tips
One contender who could pose a challenge to Scheffler is his close friend and preferred teammate for the Ryder Cup and President’s Cup, Sam Burns.
While Burns may not have Scheffler’s spectacular record at Scottsdale – just a curiosity: was the course named after him? – but he has displayed impressive putting skills in this tournament.
He followed a sixth-place finish in 2023 with a tie for third alongside Scheffler last year. Burns is generally available at 22-1, and that’s worth considering.
McIlroy’s victory last week highlighted that muscle memory might not be as crucial as one thinks. Nevertheless, course form remains important at Phoenix. Thus, defending champion Nick Taylor should be taken into account, especially at a tempting 55-1.
Taylor’s previous win came after a runner-up finish to Scheffler a year prior. Plus, the Canadian has already secured a win this season after clinching a playoff victory in Hawaii.
Korean golfer Sungjae Im has made a couple of top-ten finishes here and appeared poised for victory after a third-place showing at The Sentry, followed by a shared fourth at the Farmers.
While I would prefer odds longer than the generally available 22-1, he remains a worthy consideration even at that price.
Among the long shots, Jake Knapp hasn’t fully replicated his form from this time last year. However, he’s the type who can easily rebound, making him an interesting option at 125-1.
The same applies to Lanto Griffin, who showed his best performance in a while, finishing T9 at the Farmers last time out. You could do worse than taking a chance on him at 300-1.
Qatar Masters Golf tips
As the LIV season launches nearby in Saudi Arabia, the Qatar Masters has lost much of the star power that the DP World Tour’s desert events once held when McIlroy and others took their talents stateside.
Laurie Canter is priced around 12-1 to replicate last week’s success in Bahrain. However, given that this is only his second victory on Tour, asking for a quick third seems quite ambitious.
Another English golfer, Jordan Smith, stands out amongst the competition but his 20-1 odds feel a bit steep.
Joe Dean, another Englishman, has been performing well over the past couple of weeks, and a 45-1 quote is more appealing – as is the 80-1 for Richard Mansell, who placed in the top ten last year.
French golfer Ugo Coussaud hasn’t progressed as expected following a seventh-place finish at Wentworth and a sixth in Abu Dhabi at the end of last year. Nevertheless, at 60-1, he warrants another look in this field.
If you want to bet on the tightly contested market for the opening LIV event – instead of waiting for a few events to unfold – a 25-1 shot like David Puig might be a good each-way option after strong finishes of third and fourth in his last two outings.
Moreover, Harold Varner, a previous winner in Saudi Arabia, appears to be undervalued at 150-1.
