Impact of January Transfer Activity on Dream Team: New Additions’ Starting Prices Unveiled
THE January transfer window has officially closed.
Now it’s time to reflect on what this means for Dream Team managers.
Aston Villa has strengthened their squad with five new signings to ensure a powerful second half of the season.
Right-back Andres Garcia (£2.5m) and forward Donyell Malen (£2.9m) have arrived on permanent deals, but the Villains’ loan signings may be particularly enticing for managers.
Defender Axel Disasi (£3.3m) has joined from Chelsea on loan, while Marco Asensio (£3.5m) has made the switch from PSG.
The Spanish international presents an intriguing option.
Once hailed as a wonderkid, the 29-year-old hasn’t fully realized his potential, yet he remains a gifted player capable of making impactful contributions in the attack.
Asensio has averaged a goal or assist every 115.5 minutes in Ligue 1 since his move to PSG.
In fact, he averaged a goal involvement every 165.3 minutes over eight seasons in La Liga, even while serving as a backup for most of his time at Real Madrid.
Importantly, Asensio is listed as a midfielder in the game, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he sees some action as a centre-forward.
Experienced Dream Team managers will certainly recognize the heights Marcus Rashford (£3.4m) can achieve when he’s in form.
Last season, the England international netted 30 goals across all competitions for Manchester United, but his relationship with the club soured under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.
If Unai Emery can revitalize the 27-year-old’s confidence, there could be numerous Dream Team points up for grabs, especially with Villa’s secure spot in the Champions League last 16.
Manchester City have emerged as the biggest spenders this winter.
Managers have already evaluated Abdukodir Khusanov (£3.2m) and Omar Marmoush (£4.5m); the former struggled against Chelsea, while the latter has shown promise in his two appearances, despite not earning any points.
Meanwhile, the defending champions made a notable deadline-day acquisition in Nico Gonzalez (£3.5m) from Porto.
In the absence of Rodri, City’s midfield has faced challenges recently, so the 23-year-old Spaniard could quickly secure a regular starting role if he hits the ground running.
While it’s unrealistic to expect him to immediately replace the current Ballon d’Or holder, the introduction of new talent at Man City is certainly an exciting prospect from a Dream Team standpoint.
Additionally, Mathys Tel (£3.5m) has secured a loan move to Tottenham with an option for a permanent transfer in the summer.
The young winger attracted interest from various Premier League clubs this window but ultimately decided on Spurs following a discussion with Ange Postecoglou.
Having played just 253 league minutes for Bayern Munich this season, it’s no surprise he is eager for more game time, and he may find himself thrust into action immediately given Spurs’ injury woes.
Although still a developing player, Tel is highly regarded among those who have monitored his career closely.
Listed as a forward in Dream Team, it will be fascinating to see how Postecoglou utilizes him, especially since attacking Spurs players have performed well in Dream Team this season.
Additionally, the North London team has strengthened their defense through the loan acquisition of centre-back Kevin Danso (£3.5m) from Lens.
However, managers may be cautious regarding Spurs defenders due to their limited attacking contributions.
Manchester United has introduced left-back Patrick Dorgu (£2.5m) into their ranks.
The 20-year-old Denmark international’s position in the hierarchy remains to be seen, but he has made a positive impression at Lecce since debuting last season.
Finally, it will be interesting to observe how Evan Ferguson (£2.7m) performs at West Ham.
The Irish striker has experienced periods of relative popularity in Dream Team, though he has netted only once for Brighton this season before moving to East London.
At minimum, Dream Team managers should remain cognizant of the fresh opportunities created by the January transfer window.
