Nabi: Chiefs Earned Their Victory Over AmaZulu

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi expressed belief that his team was worthy of victory after generating multiple chances in their 2-2 draw against AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

The match marked the first encounter for Arthur Zwane, AmaZulu’s co-coach, against his former team.

Nabi reflected on the squandered opportunities, stating, “It’s a game that we should have won based on the chances we created. While the opponent had some opportunities, we created far more chances to secure the victory. We believe we deserved to win this match.”

Chiefs’ goals were primarily a result of their opponents’ errors, although their persistent pressure played a significant role. Goalkeeper Richard Ofori had an unsettled performance, particularly on Chiefs’ second goal, which he inadvertently pushed into his own net.

Chiefs provided first starts to new acquisitions Glody Lilepo, Tashreeq Morris, and Thabo Cele. Lilepo and Cele had come off the bench during Chiefs’ previous encounter, the Soweto Derby loss to Orlando Pirates at the same location.

At halftime, Nabi replaced Mduduzi Shabalala with Sibongiseni Mthethwa. He elaborated on the tactical adjustment, saying, “We felt we were somewhat unbalanced, especially in defense. Our defensive line wasn’t adequately protected. We aimed to address that by introducing Ox in the second half. We felt more composed after the adjustment. Even in the last five minutes, we squandered two chances. We had ample opportunities to finish the game, but this is football, and we need to accept it and continue to improve.”

Currently positioned fifth in the Betway Premiership table with 22 points from 16 matches, Chiefs are set to visit Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium on Friday night.
