Tottenham Secures Transfer Just 24 Hours Past Deadline for 17-Year-Old Wonderkid, Making Him First £1M Irish Talent – But He Can’t Join Yet
TOTTENHAM is poised to acquire Irish talent Mason Melia.
A transfer deal valued at £1.6 million with additional bonuses has been finalized with St Patrick’s Athletic for the promising forward.
However, due to Brexit regulations, the 17-year-old is unable to join the club until the transfer window following his 18th birthday.
This means he will officially become a Spurs player on January 1, 2026.
Melia is recognized as one of the most promising young talents emerging from Ireland in recent years.
Celtic expressed significant interest in him.
Additionally, clubs such as Everton, Club Brugge, and Eintracht Frankfurt have recently shown interest in the striker.
Nonetheless, Melia is said to have always preferred a move to Spurs.
This transfer will mark him as the first player from the League of Ireland Premier Division to be valued at over a million pounds.
The young forward scored six goals in 31 league appearances for St Patrick’s in 2024.
In other news, Spurs finalized the signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day.
The London club will pay £10m for the loan, which includes an £8.3m loan fee and £1.7m for his wages.
