Maduka Explains Technical Team Decision at Magesi
Recently appointed head coach John Maduka of Magesi FC has shared his reasoning behind not bringing his assistant coach to the club, opting instead to retain the existing technical staff.
The Malawian tactician was introduced as the new manager on Thursday at the Limpopo club, taking over from Owen Da Gama, who successfully salvaged the team from relegation before parting ways due to unsuccessful contract negotiations.
Maduka, who joined Magesi after a challenging stint with the financially troubled Royal AM, chose not to follow the conventional route of recruiting trusted colleagues to strengthen his technical team.
The former Thwihli Thwahla coach believes that the current staff possesses the expertise necessary to help him realize his ambitions since they have been part of the club since its amateur days and aided in its rise to the top division.
“I think you don’t just change something if it’s not essential. I have strong faith in the existing technical team. They have been instrumental in the promotion journey from the ABC Motsepe League to the NFD and the PSL,” Maduka stated.

“Therefore, I believe these coaches are not just placeholders; they understand their roles and responsibilities, and if I don’t feel the need to recruit someone else, then that’s what I’ll stick with.”
While he is satisfied with the current technical support, Maduka remains open to the possibility of adding new staff if the reigning Carling Knockout champions find it necessary.
“If it becomes essential for us as a collective to strengthen the technical team, then we will consider it. But as of now, we feel very positive about the team we have,” he confidently remarked.
“Sometimes, reinforcement is just about ensuring you have a robust technical staff capable of helping you reach your targets.”
Following a 13th-place finish in their first season in the Betway Premiership last year, Magesi is focused on avoiding relegation and sustaining their top-tier status while possibly defending their inaugural major title.
