Sky Sports Issues Apology After Lando Norris Curses Live on Air Following Emotional British Grand Prix Victory

SKY SPORTS had to issue an apology live on air after Lando Norris used profanity following his landmark victory at the Formula One British Grand Prix.

Norris, 25, claimed the chequered flag at Silverstone for the first time in his career during a challenging and exhilarating race.

The McLaren star from Bristol seized the opportunity presented by a ten-second penalty handed to team-mate Oscar Piastri after he suddenly halted during the safety car period.

This incident allowed Max Verstappen to temporarily overtake the current championship leader before he spun out moments later.

However, race officials penalized the Australian driver severely for a safety car breach.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Norris cried over the team radio, exclaiming: “Wooo, we did it.”

Back in parc ferme, he fought to control his emotions during a post-race interview with former F1 world champion and Sky Sports F1 analyst Jenson Button.

When asked about his race after taking the lead, Norris shared: “Your mind just goes pretty blank. Everything you might think before the race, you forget.

“The main thing is just don’t f*** it up, that’s rule number one.

“In the final laps, I was just looking into the crowd, trying to absorb it all, cherish the moment, because it might never happen again.

“I hope it does. But these are memories that I will carry with me forever. It’s an incredible achievement.”

Button quickly apologized for the expletive, while Norris also issued his own apology.

He then offered praise for his teammate, whom he described as “fast the whole way” and expressed gratitude to his team for the car.

Norris remarked: “This race was as stressful as it gets. It was a good performance from Oscar too.

“I have to give credit to Oscar; he was impressive all along. So, applause for Oscar for putting up a good fight.

“I treasure those moments when we’re racing together, even if it’s not as much fun when he’s ahead of me rather than behind. But that’s racing.

“Kudos to him and McLaren; winning at home in front of our friends and family is simply amazing.”

Norris shared the podium with Piastri and Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg, who achieved his first-ever F1 podium after 239 races and several near misses.

The trio and the winning constructor were awarded trophies uniquely made entirely of LEGO bricks.

Piastri, 24, displayed evident frustration in his own post-race interview regarding the controversial decision made against him.

He stated: “I’m not going to say much. Hats off to Nico; I believe that’s the highlight of the day. I’ll leave it at that.”

“Apparently, you can’t brake behind the safety car anymore. I managed to do it for five laps before that. I won’t delve too deep; I’d rather not get myself into trouble.

“A big thank you to the audience for a wonderful event. I appreciate everyone staying through the weather. I still have a fondness for Silverstone, even if I wasn’t too happy today.”

Hulkenberg, 37, presented a much more cheerful demeanor.

The German driver stated: “It has been a long time coming, hasn’t it? I always believed we had it in us, and I have it in me somewhere.

“What a race—coming from virtually last place, reliving the experience from last weekend. It’s surreal, to be honest.

“I’m not sure how everything unfolded, but the conditions were chaotic. It was a survival race for a significant portion out there.

“I think we executed the right strategies, made the right calls, had the right tyres, and remained error-free—it was quite incredible.”

Hulkenberg’s podium finish placed him just ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who aimed for his first podium with Ferrari at a track where he holds the record for the most wins (nine).

Hamilton ended P4, while Verstappen managed to recover to P5 after his late spin under the safety car, which had dropped him from P2 to P9.

Norris now sits just eight points behind Piastri in the drivers’ championship standings.
