However, the Turkish club, coached by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, abruptly withdrew from the transfer after Walker-Peters requested a delay.
The player, who has two caps for England, had already settled on a lucrative contract with Besiktas, with a medical appointment in place.
West Ham is eager to secure backup for Aaron Wan-Bissaka following the departure of Vladimir Coufal.
Walker-Peters’ adaptability, showing proficiency in playing on the left or as a full-back, will also be beneficial.
The defender had been set to travel to Turkey before unexpectedly asking Besiktas for an extension.
Besiktas stated: “It is known that the transfer of Kyle Walker-Peters, for which we had previously announced an agreement in principle and invited him to Istanbul for a medical examination, has been postponed.
“Today, Kyle Walker-Peters notified us, requesting a delay.
“Consequently, we have withdrawn our offer for the transfer.”
