Former England Star Gary Mabbutt Hospitalized Following Serious Accident Ahead of Three Lions Match Against Argentina
Former England footballer Gary Mabbutt has been hospitalized in South Africa following a “serious accident.”
The ex-Three Lions defender requires medical attention due to a “significant blood clot in his calf,” as reported by a friend and former teammate.
Mabbutt, 64, spent the majority of his career at Tottenham after starting at Bristol Rovers.
He earned 16 caps for England from 1982 to 1992.
Micky Hazard, a longtime friend and teammate of Mabbutt, posted an update on Facebook.
He wrote: “Just a heads up that Gary Mabbutt has had a serious accident in South Africa and is currently in the hospital for treatment of a major blood clot in his calf.

“He cannot fly back to England until at least the 24th.
“Please send him your best wishes to boost his spirits.
“Best wishes, Mabsy; you’ve overcome greater challenges and prevailed.”
The unfortunate incident occurred just as England was preparing to face Argentina in the World Cup semi-final in Atlanta.
Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge provided an update, stating: “He is recuperating from an accident and Tottenham Hotspur has been in touch with him.
“He is currently resting and waiting for medical approval to return home.”
