Fans Discover the Name of Marcos Llorente’s Dog as He Haunts Liverpool Once More

Llorente chose to name his pug after the famous Premier League stadium after eliminating Liverpool from the Champions League in 2020.

He scored twice as Atletico won 3-2 in extra time to progress to the quarter-finals of the European event.

While the Spanish team ultimately lost 2-1 to RB Leipzig in the subsequent round, Anfield has proven to be a fruitful ground for Llorente.

Llorente scored another two goals against Liverpool during last season’s Champions League group stage.

This was followed by a fifth goal at Anfield in the 17th minute during Atletico’s opening match of the season against Liverpool.

The name of Llorente’s pug has led many fans on social media to highlight his “special connection” with Anfield.

One fan on X remarked: “Marcos Llorente treats Anfield like his local five-a-side ground, true menace.”

Another noted: “He named his dog Anfield and continues to score goals there.”

Llorente’s remarkable performance at the iconic venue prompted TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher to mention the dog’s name on air.

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard quickly chimed in, suggesting how he would name a pet in a similar fashion.

Gerrard claimed: “I’d call mine Goodison!”

Notably, out of Gerrard’s ten goals scored in the Merseyside Derby, only three were at Goodison Park, while the remaining seven occurred at Anfield.

Sadly for Llorente, his goal wasn’t enough as Liverpool ultimately secured a 2-1 victory against the LaLiga side.

To add to the disappointment, both teams will be barred from facing each other at Anfield in next season’s league phase due to a UEFA rule change.

Liverpool will next welcome Fulham in the Premier League this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Atletico will head to Real Sociedad for a LaLiga match on Sunday.
