Lamine Yamal Makes History for Barcelona Against Feyenoord, Breaking Record Held by Former Premier League Star

LAMINE YAMAL achieved a remarkable milestone during Barcelona’s impressive victory over Feyenoord, becoming the club’s youngest captain ever.

The young prodigy was given the captain’s armband in Barca’s 5-1 triumph over the Dutch club when Raphinha exited the match in the 71st minute.

Yamal now holds the record for being Barcelona’s youngest captain at just 19 years and 58 days old.

The Ballon d’Or hopeful struck a free-kick just six minutes later, extending the lead to 4-0 for the Spanish side.

After assisting Raphinha for the opening goal in just three minutes, Yamal then quickly contributed a second as ex-Arsenal player Gabriel Jesus scored his first goal for the Blaugrana on his Champions League debut.

Prior to this, the youngest captain honor belonged to former Premier League player Bojan Krkić.

Bojan led the team as captain at the age of 20 in a Copa del Rey match against Cueta back in 2010.

He later had a successful stint at Stoke City for five years from 2014 to 2019 after struggling to cement a place in the squad at Nou Camp.

This was understandable, considering he was in the shadow of legends like Lionel Messi, David Villa, and Pedro during his time on the team.

In contrast, Yamal faced no such difficulties and quickly won the admiration of the supporters.

Numerous comparisons have been drawn between him and previous iconic players in Barca’s history.

Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst recently compared Yamal to some of Barcelona’s all-time greats and expressed belief in his potential to win the Ballon d’Or.

He noted after the match: “At his age, he’s won everything. The fans adore him.

“He could win the Ballon d’Or. I view him as being comparable to Messi and Ronaldinho.”
