Napoli 0, Arsenal 1: Odegaard’s Brilliant Strike Sparks Gunners’ Champions League Journey
Similar to their journey to Naples, Arsenal’s Champions League adventure began with a delay.
However, when it eventually took flight with just 15 minutes remaining in the match, it proved to be well worth the wait.
Nothing was going to hinder Martin Odegaard’s spectacular strike from outside the box, marking his fourth goal of the season.
The winning goal was particularly memorable as it sharply contrasted with the preceding events.
Prior to that moment, the Gunners had been dismal in front of goal.
Fortunately, a running track encircling this magnificent stadium meant that fans in the front rows weren’t in any danger.

It was quite fitting that Arsenal took their time to get going, especially considering how this challenging trip to Napoli commenced.
Issues with air traffic control in the UK delayed the squad’s flight, which landed three hours later than scheduled, at 10pm on Tuesday.
This may have contributed to their slow start, as Mikel Arteta’s side executed much of the heavy lifting but struggled with the crucial final ball.
Nonetheless, a win is a win, and Arteta will be particularly pleased since this marks the first of four away matches prior to this month’s international break.

The Gunners have aspirations to progress far in the Champions League, as well as the Premier League, following their final defeat last season.
With depth in their squad, Arteta demonstrated his strategy by making four adjustments for this initial encounter.
However, even with the wealth of talent at his disposal, Mikel Arteta refrained from making extensive changes.
Hincapie entered the defense in place of Riccardo Calafiori, while Mikel Merino took Myles Lewis-Skelly’s spot in midfield.
Up front, Christos Tzolis and Kai Havertz were replaced by Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres, both making their first season starts.
They faced some recognizable opponents, including former Manchester City captain Kevin De Bruyne.
The 35-year-old has frequently troubled Arsenal, bringing into this match eight goals and four assists in his last 17 outings against the Gunners.
Now, however, the Belgian is part of a Napoli midfield with an average age of 30.
Yet, he showcased that he can still make an impact, being the most dangerous Napoli player, exploiting spaces behind former Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund.
One of his shots from outside the box was reminiscent of his prime, but David Raya managed to parry it away.
Napoli displayed a lively breakaway strategy, but the competent Ezri Konsa thwarted their advances, allowing Arsenal to dominate the first half.
Saka and Eze were dynamic on the flanks, with both seeing early attempts blocked within the opening ten minutes.
Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret was kept on his toes, making a crucial save from Mikel Merino’s diving header.
The movement from Eze and Saka was central, with the former assisting the latter with a cross that Merino headed into scoring range.
Eze’s flair on the left flank complemented solid build-up play, despite the absence of a decisive final touch.
As he has all season, right-back Ben White found success on the overlap, even testing Meret with a weak shot.
This described much of Arsenal’s finishing during the first half, which often fell short or soared over the goal.
Declan Rice produced one attempt that ended up onto the running track surrounding the stadium, leading to a visibly frustrated Arteta during a half where his team generated 13 shots.
The best opportunity was squandered by Saka, who sent a wild shot over the bar while positioned just inside the box. The offside flag was raised, but VAR might have sided with Arsenal, which would have been justifiable given their efforts.
Napoli was forced to make a halftime substitution, with Meret being replaced by backup goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
However, the change in goalkeeper did little to alter Arsenal’s fortunes.
The second half commenced similarly to the first, but this time it was Hincapie’s turn to misfire.
White’s header presented him with a clear opportunity from just yards out, yet he somehow sent the attempt over the bar.
With 25 minutes remaining, Arteta looked to his strong bench, introducing Bruno Guimaraes and Tzolis.
However, the Greek winger did not fare much better and joined the ranks of those who sent efforts soaring into the Naples sky.
Ultimately, it was Odegaard who took charge, striking a precise shot into the bottom corner off the post to secure the victory.
