Pochettino Revives Old Feud with ‘Foolish’ Mike Dean, Criticizing Referee’s Recent Controversial Statements

Former referee Mike Dean was described as “stupid” and has “revealed his true self,” according to Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino had a heated confrontation with Dean following Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Burnley in 2019.

The Argentine downplayed suggestions that Dean had ridiculed Tottenham’s dwindling title ambitions during their altercation.

However, after the former referee stated he engaged in “MINI GAMES” during Premier League matches, Pochettino implied that Dean had not helped his case.

Pochettino stated, “He was always a controversial figure. Now he’s revealing how he truly is.

“Our principle is to never discuss what occurs on the pitch.

“You know, ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’.

“As a player, when something occurs on the field, it’s always kept private.

“At the time of the Burnley match, we were feeling the pressure and disappointment, and he made one foolish comment, which led to our reaction.

“It wasn’t significant and something we could not manage.

“When you are under that kind of pressure, jokes are unwelcome.

“He added fuel to the fire.”

When asked about Dean’s latest comments, Pochettino remarked, “Perhaps he’s trying to showcase his personality, aiming to be humorous and stir up some controversy.

“I don’t believe he was doing what he claims he did in that podcast.

“He’s just adding spice to the situation.

“It was always enjoyable being with him, and we had a good rapport.

“That one moment was challenging because we were in a very delicate situation.

“And that’s it. It’s all just a memory now.”
