South Africans who’ll play for overseas teams in Champions Cup

Here is a complete list of the 23 South Africans that’ll turn out for 11 of the 13 European-based teams in the Champions Cup round of 16 this weekend.

The Champions Cup round of 16 will comprise of three South African teams — the Bulls, Sharks and Stormers — and 13 foreign sides. Those overseas clubs are Irish teams Leinster, Ulster and Munster; English teams Leicester Tigers, Harlequins, Gloucester, Exeter Chiefs and Saracens; French sides La Rochelle, Montpellier and Toulouse; Scottish outfit Ospreys; and Welsh team Ospreys.

With the exception of Leinster and Toulouse, every one of the other foreign sides boast one or more South African-born player in their match-day squad for this weekend’s Champions Cup playoffs.

In total there are 23 Saffas who’ll be in action for the overseas-based teams in the Champions Cup, and of those 10 are capped Springboks.

Leicester Tigers vs Edinburgh

Edinburgh — Duhan van der Merwe, WP Nel, Pierre Schoeman, Boan Venter, Luan de Bruin.

Sharks vs Munster

Munster — RG Snyman, Jean Kleyn.

Stormers vs Harlequins

Harlequins — Andre Esterhuizen, Wilco Louw, Irne Herbst.

Ulster vs Leinster

Ulster — Duane Vermeulen, Rob Herring.

La Rochelle vs Gloucester

La Rochelle — Raymond Rhule.
Gloucester — Ruan Ackermann.

Exeter Chiefs vs Montpellier

Exeter Chiefs — Jannes Kirsten.
Montpellier — Jan Serfontein, Cobus Reinach, Nico Janse van Rensburg.

Saracens vs Ospreys

Saracens — Ivan van Zyl.
Ospreys — Tom Botha.
