Tottenham Target England U21 Star as Guglielmo Vicario Replacement, with ‘Next N’Golo Kante’ on Transfer Wishlist
TOTTENHAM are evaluating Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as a potential emergency signing over the next few months.
Patterson, 24, appears to be an ideal candidate for Spurs, who are seeking a backup for the injured Guglielmo Vicario — preferably someone willing to play as a reserve.
The notable Black Cats number one is ready to take the leap to the top tier, but it may have to be as a second-choice option.
Sunderland is unlikely to want to part ways with Patterson during their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League, though they typically sell at a fair price, meaning Tottenham could secure a deal.
Spurs have also looked at James Trafford from Burnley, but acquiring the England Under-21 keeper would be a significant financial commitment.
Additionally, they are interested in Ivory Coast goalkeeper Yahia Fofana from French club Angers.
Patterson solidified his position as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper in the 2021-2022 season.
Since then, he has made 137 appearances for the club.
Last year, Patterson earned his England U21 cap as a substitute in a 2-0 loss to Japan at St George’s Park.
He is regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers outside of the Premier League.
Manchester United and Liverpool have shown interest in Patterson in the past.
Meanwhile, Tottenham and Aston Villa are competing for the services of Reims’ young midfield sensation Valentin Atangana.
