With this win, Arsenal closed the gap to seven points behind league leaders Liverpool, who drew 3-3 at St James’ Park.

Mikel Arteta‘s side regained the lead through a set-piece, as Jurrien Timber scored a precise near-post header in the 54th minute after a delivery from Declan Rice.

They extended their lead from another corner in the 73rd minute, with William Saliba scoring, albeit unintentionally.

The defeat marked the first loss for Manchester United under Ruben Amorim’s short tenure.
