Trailing by two sets to one, Munar’s frustration was evident.
With Cilic ahead 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, and 3-2, Munar faced a crucial break point that could have determined the match’s outcome.
As the Croatian hammered a forehand down the line, Munar dashed several yards behind the baseline in an attempt to retrieve the shot.
After sending a backhand lob into play, Munar inadvertently collided with a ball kid stationed at the back of the court.
Noticing his lob land out, the Spaniard angrily gestured towards the ball kid.
After his serve was broken, Munar confronted umpire Mohamed Lahyani about the incident.
The world No. 55 exclaimed: “He has to stay? I hit him with the racquet and he has to stay?”
Lahyani retorted: “If he’s in his position, there’s nothing I can do.”

Munar was not appeased and continued, “He can’t move? If I’m running and I hit him, that’s it?”
“And we just go on like nothing happened? I hit him with the racquet and that’s nothing?”
Fortunately, the ball kid was unharmed in the incident.
Following that point, Munar fell behind 4-2 and ultimately succumbed 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Cilic, aged 36, will take on Flavio Cobolli for a place in the quarter-finals.
The Italian No. 22 seed recently dispatched Jakub Mensik with ease.
