However, they have received special permission to join later after the heartbreaking loss of their fellow countryman Diogo Jota.

The Liverpool forward, aged 28, along with his brother Andre, 25, tragically lost their lives in a car accident on Thursday.

Fernandes and Dalot attended the funeral in Portugal on Saturday.

A source commented: “Bruno and Diogo are devastated and in shock following the funeral. The team has come together to support them, offering a week’s extended leave along with counseling services.”

The duo had played alongside Jota for a decade in the national team, recently celebrating a Nations League victory just weeks ago.

In a heartfelt message following Jota’s passing, Fernandes expressed: “May you and your brother find the peace you need.”

Liverpool has also postponed the squad’s return for pre-season due to Jota’s untimely death.

The Merseyside team has postponed the initial return of Arne Slot’s players, which was set for Friday, and they will now reconvene on Monday.

Slot’s squad is expected to play their first pre-season match on Sunday, July 13, against Preston at Deepdale.

Additional matches against AC Milan and Yokohama FM will take place on July 26 and 30, respectively, during the Japan tour.
