Miguel Describes Sundowns Match as a ‘Significant Challenge’

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has highlighted that facing Mamelodi Sundowns will be a significant challenge for them and he is hopeful for a victory on game day.

Chiefs are set to host Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Wednesday [19:30] as part of the Betway Premiership league. They aim to continue their winning streak, having secured victories in their first three matches of the season.

Currently, the Glamour Boys sit in second place with nine points, while Sundowns are in third with seven points, after drawing their initial game and winning the subsequent two.

“Every match that Kaizer Chiefs participates in is one we need to win, while still showing respect to Sundowns,” stated Miguel, who has been appointed captain of the Chiefs.

“We are a big team with a rich history. Playing at home means we have the support of our fans not just on the field, but throughout Johannesburg. It’s essential that we establish our stronghold here to secure maximum points in the PSL.”

“Certainly, Sundowns will present a significant test, but I believe the boys are ready; the team is geared up to take on this challenge, and we are hopeful for a win,” Miguel expressed.

He remarked that achieving three clean sheets has stemmed from their diligent preparations during the pre-season, which included a tour to the Netherlands.

“As I mentioned since last season, it’s all part of a process, and now we find ourselves in the thick of it. I think we’re beginning to see the fruits of the hard work we invested in the pre-season,” Miguel explained.

“Even if we didn’t achieve the best results initially, we are aware that our efforts are aimed at something greater. Our focus was to enter the PSL and test our capabilities; come Wednesday, we will see what Sundowns can bring to the table. However, we are in a strong phase right now, working well together, and I believe that’s the key difference compared to last season.”

The captain emphasized that the team’s unity has improved compared to the previous season, and they are beginning to see the benefits of their efforts.

“This season, our squad is more united, which was a key objective in our pre-season – to strengthen our connections and bond. I think the results reflect that effort. While it’s still early to declare our aspirations clear, I am quite satisfied with our team and our defensive performance; we are doing well,” Miguel concluded.
