Mallorca confirmed on Wednesday that the player has been suspended from both his duties and pay, and that his captaincy has been revoked effective immediately.
Rodriguez was an unused substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Saturday.
Following the match, the 37-year-old shared a photo of his family at the stadium on Instagram, expressing his frustration about not getting any minutes on the field.
He mentioned traveling to Madrid with his children, who were eager to watch him play at the Bernabeu.
They were disheartened when their father did not step onto the pitch at all.
The Spaniard remarked: “An essential lesson and advice for them: Never anticipate anything from anyone, especially in these times when meritocracy, culture, and respect for hard work seem to be lacking.”
“Do things for your own sake and passion, without expecting anything in return.”
He later followed this up with an open letter featured in Spanish media.

Rodriguez expressed his respect for the decisions made by manager Jagoba Arrasate and stated he wasn’t upset that his kids didn’t get to see him play or about his own game time.
“What I cannot accept is the lack of respect for commitment and dedication,” he said.
“It hurts when a new player, with only one training session, gets to play ahead of teammates who have dedicated years to this club, pouring their sweat into wearing this jersey and prioritizing the club above all else.”
He seemed to be referring to recently signed forward Jan Virgili, who was brought on by Arrasate in the 87th minute.
Rodriguez stated: “I hope Jan succeeds here and we can all support him.”
“However, when incidents like this happen, it conveys a terrible message to the locker room: that hard work, dedication, or loyalty are irrelevant. That is what upset me.”
Rodriguez mentioned he wrote the letter to clarify things because his family has been facing a challenging time.
Since Mallorca’s announcement of his suspension, he has not released any public statements.
